Grilled Pear Salad

  • Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 lb blue cheese
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1/4 cup shallots minced
  • 2 tbsp sherry vinegar
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 lb baby lettuce mix
  • 12 fresh figs stemmed and split
  • 6 pears split and cored
  • 1 head frisee or curly endive lettuce
  • butter
  • 1/2 lb pecans
  • 1/2 lb radicchio


  1. Brush the cut side of the fruit with olive oil and place on grill. Cook long enough to achieve grill marks and to soften slightly.
  2. Melt butter in a baking pan, add pecans and salt and pepper lightly. Place in a medium-hot oven for 5 minutes, stir and continue roasting just to brown. Cool and set aside.
  3. Mix the olive oil, vinegar, honey and salt and pepper in a salad bowl. Whisk together, add the the shallots, then add the salad greens.
  4. Toss to coat, arrange the warm grilled fruit on top and garnish with crumbled blue cheese and toasted pecans.
