When her daughter was diagnosed with food allergies, Denise became frustrated with the lack of safe, delicious snacks, so she made her own allergy-friendly, gluten-free, vegan treats. Food allergies affect 1 in 13 children in the US, with Black children at significantly higher risk.

Jeff Martin was helping his sister Jen move when hunger struck. A bag of heirloom popcorn kernels was the only thing not packed. Jeff and Jen loved the popcorn so much, they tracked down the Indiana farmer who grew it and launched Pipcorn at a Brooklyn farmers market with popcorn made in their mom’s spaghetti pot.

South African Rudger van Wyk (2018 Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) paired with José Conde of Stark-Condé Wines to launch Kara-Tara, which means “deep dark shadows” in the language of the indigenous people of southern Africa. It refers to the Karatara River that runs through Knysna, the coastal South African town where van Wyk grew up.
