Specialty grocery retailer to host two-week celebration of all things British,
September 19 – October 2
Austin–September 14, 2018 – Central Market invites shoppers on a culinary journey across the pond during ‘Passport United Kingdom’ September 19 through October 2. In celebration of all things British, Central Market will showcase traditional foods and ingredients along with hundreds of brilliant new items from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Visit either Austin store location on Friday, Sept. 21 from 5-7 for a Sampling Tour of a wide array of UK treats, and a costume contest with a jolly good prize. (See store activities below for further details)
The popular retailer’s annual Passport series has honored such countries and regions as Greece, Mexico, Italy, France, Brazil, Spain, Argentina and the Southern United States in recent years, bringing authentic food, wines, spices, coffees, cheeses, and all manner of pastas, produce, meats and seafood to Central Market customers. Passport is much more than a weekend of product sampling—it is a virtual in-country voyage of international culinary discovery.
Throughout this year’s two-week foodie festival, proper British products and dishes will be available for sample and purchase including Native Scottish Hebridean Salmon, award-winning sparkling wines, artisanal meat pies, Earl Grey brined rotisserie chicken, fish and chips, and pasties, along with Victorian Sponge Cake, a large array of confections, Yorkshire Pudding and a large selection of unique cheddar and Stilton cheeses.

SAMPLING TOUR AND COSTUME CONTEST:
Friday, Sept. 21, from 5-7 PM: Tour the store and sample a variety of products from throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales – many created by family-owned, artisanal companies. As you make your way through the aisles, you’ll enjoy over a dozen British specialties like tea, shortbread, house-made sausages, smoked salmon, chocolates, English Sparkling wine, beer, and cider, plus the very ice cream served at Buckingham Palace.

Dress as your favorite Brit and you could win a trip to London — Brilliant!
Let your imagination run wild and come dressed as any Brit from Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare to Elton John and The Spice Girls. Hear ye, hear ye! The British are coming! From the call of the bagpipes, to a ceremonial cutting of a wheel of cheese, Westgate Central Market is launching Passport UK in style. Learn about the ornamental and vegetable gardens begun at Great Dixter, home of the gardener & writer Christopher Lloyd, at the start of the 20th century; how fulfilling eating seasonally can be; and pick up tips as Aaron shows you how to make: Warm Zucchini Fritters served with Hummus, paired with British Sparkling Wine; Warm Parsnip Soup; Chicken & Leek Pie; and Chocolate Steamed Pudding.
