The Perfect Easter Picnic

So many ways to celebrate! The first blog in our Easter series was for folks who love a traditional Easter with white linens and grandma’s china. Today’s menu ideas are for our families who load up the car and take their Easter fun outdoors. So whether you fill picnic tables under palm trees at the beach or under oaks in your favorite park, we have everything you need for a terrific day with family and friends.

Grill Time
Here are three picnic-perfect options for your grilling expertise. Surround them with sides, pop the top on your beer, and enjoy the day!

1. Liven things up with Firecracker Chicken Thighs.
2. Please vegetarians and meat-eaters alike with Grilled Portobello Burgers.
3. Don’t forget Cowboy Burgers — a Market favorite made with two of life’s greatest things: cheese and bacon.

Now if you aren’t going the grill route, Ham Sliders are a perfect picnic twist on a classic Easter meal. Bonus if you have leftovers from a sit-down Easter dinner the night before. Our Fire-Glazed Bone-In Spiral Sliced Ham stacks up really well on slider buns with cheese and mustard!

Fill up those trusty aluminum serving trays and your Kodi cooler with Chef Prepared sides to bring restaurant-quality and variety to your spring celebration. You can bring a little of this and a little of that so you’re sure to have something for everyone’s tastes. Our Cut Fruit is another way to bring the best while saving time and prep work.

Or, if you feel like being your own chef, check out these Central Market approved recipes. They cover the must-have standards, as well as offer new flavors to make the meal extra special.

You can’t call it a picnic without Mustard Potato Salad, so this recipe isn’t even optional. It’s mandatory.

Same goes for Deviled Eggs. It just wouldn’t be Easter or a picnic without them. Tip: Nellie’s Free Range Eggs are on sale this week.

Greek Cucumber Salad keeps things light and fresh and goes with any main dish you choose.

Couscous Tabbouleh is easily made for a crowd and has a fresh flavor that pairs well with grilled foods.

And depending on your picnic set up you could make Barbecue Corn and Onion Salad the night before and serve room temp or toss the ingredients on the grill at the beach and enjoy it hot.

Snacks, AKA Cheese
Basically when I say snacks, I mean chips and queso. When you’re buzzing around the store, look for Julio’s Queso and Salsa on sale this week. Your picnic peeps will thank you.

And while we’re on the subject of cheese… If you’re going to make a snack tray of nibbles for grazing, we recommend Ivy’s Vintage Reserve Cheddar. It’s rich with a sharp tang and made using Grandmother Ivy’s 100-year-old family recipe. So you know it’s gotta be good. It’s also available smoked over oak wood dampened with local cider. For real.

Wine & Beer
Ice down your favorite Texas craft beers, so after another round of playing Easter Bunny and hiding eggs for squealing kiddos, you can pop the top and take a well-deserved seat. And if you’re looking for a crisp and refreshing white wine to bring along, check out Chaos and Harmony Sauvignon Blanc with its notes of grapefruit, kiwi, lychee and a lingering finish. You can also rosé your day away with any of our fabulous pinks that are right at home with your toes in the sand and the sun on your face.

If you have room for dessert after stealing your kids’ Easter candy all afternoon, here are three can’t-miss ideas that certainly say spring and special occasion.

Bright, sweet and tart, Lemon Meringue Squares basically scream springtime. Plus, they’re an easy one-pan dessert that travel well and serve easily on picnic tables.

Made in all its three-tier glory, Coconut Cake is a show stopper. But you can easily bake them as cupcakes instead for easy transport to the park, and they’ll be just as festive.

Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies are a classic picnic dessert. Baked with sprinkles inside or decorated with spring colored frosting and topped with jelly beans, these are an easy way to please a crowd.

You may not typically arrange a centerpiece at the park, but why not pick up a bouquet of tulips to someone special at the gathering? They’ll love the gesture, and the flowers will add extra beauty to your spread.

However you celebrate, Central Market has the food, drink, and expert advice to make your gathering extra special. Come visit and let us help you create an Easter to remember!
