Grilled Apples

I’ve been grilling everything from eggplant to peaches this summer, so when the Great Apple Harvest came around, the idea of tossing apples on the grill was one of my very first thoughts. I got a few quizzical looks at my house, but once folks tasted the grilled apples and licked honey off their fingertips, any questions about my methods vanished!

Here is the recipe I used as a guide. I didn’t measure anything, though. I just sprinkled away until I thought everything looked right. Cinnamon, honey, chocolate, and caramel all made it onto the apples, and each pairing and combination I tried was super delicious. Pretty hard to go wrong here.
Grilled Cinnamon Apple Slices Drizzled With Honey
     Recipe from extraordinary
3 Honeycrisp apples, cut into 3/4 inch circle slices, cored if you wish
3 Tbsp. melted butter
3 tsp. cinnamon
2 Tbsp. honey
Brush melted butter onto both sides of apple slices.
Grill apples for about 6 minutes on each side, until grill marks appear.
Top with cinnamon and honey (or whatever toppings you like) as soon as you take them off the grill.

I used Honeycrisp apples because that's what I had at home, but I'd love to pick up a variety of flavors and do a taste test to see how the flavors are different coming off the grill. I'm also thinking grilled apples tucked into a turkey sandwich or grilled cheese or diced on top of a salad would be neat to try.

The Great Apple Harvest runs through October 4.
